Job Title: Port Operative / Labourer week day work available

Rates of Pay: Starting rates circa £9.00 – £10.80 per hour with the potential to increase pay rates, through acquiring additional skills and competencies.

London Thamesport (LTP) is located in the heart of South East England,  with the strategic vision to become one of the UK’s most thriving multi-purpose ports. A member of the Hutchison Ports Group, London Thamesport regularly welcomes new vessels and cargoes as part of its’ diversification strategy.
The opportunity has arisen for them to expand their temporary labour resource, providing applicants with the opportunity to acquire new skills and potentially develop a long term career in the port industry.
Initially all candidates would be introduced onto the contract in the capacity of port operations, predominantly consisting of manual labouring tasks, including the loading and discharge of general cargo vessels, tallying of cargo and contributing to the safe and efficient transport and storage of varied cargoes around the Port; supporting both shipside and landside operations.

Key Requirements for the role

These include:
– Complete an initial training period of circa 35 hours (reasonable notice period given).
– The ability to work both as part of a team and on own intuitive where necessary.
– Carry out manual handling tasks, including the loading and discharge of general cargo vessels and the movement and storage of these cargoes within the Port.
– The potential to progress to operate Internal Movement Vehicles and additional plant (where trained), to transport containers and general cargo around the Port, in support of landside and shipside operations as required.
– Be comfortable with working at height (previous experience beneficial).
– Follow all relevant statutory and Port specific Health & Safety and Operational requirements and procedures at all times.
Who we are looking for?

Suitable applicants will:
– Be physically able to carry out heavy manual labour for up to 4 hours at a time with appropriate rest periods, where applicable.
– Be flexible in your approach to working hours and tasks and be available at relatively short notice.  
– Be keen to learn new skills and complete relevant training.
– The ability to prioritise Health & Safety in a safety critical environment.
– Have a full UK driving licence.

Applicants will be required to successfully complete a medical assessment, relevant to the role and undergo Drug and Alcohol screening, as part of the selection process.
