Job Title: Port Operative / Labourer/ Forklift

Flexible weekend hours

Rates of Pay: Starting rates circa £8.70 TO £12.30 per hour with the potential to increase pay rates, through acquiring additional skills and competencies.
Organisation background
The Port of Felixstowe is Britain’s biggest and busiest container port, and one of the largest in Europe.
The port welcomes approximately 3,000 ships each year, including the largest container vessels afloat today – crucially, the port provides some of the deepest water close to the open sea of any European port.
The opportunity has arisen for them to expand their temporary labour resource, providing applicants with the opportunity to acquire new skills and potentially develop a long term career in the port industry.
Initially all candidates would be introduced onto the contract in the capacity of port operations, predominantly consisting of manual labouring tasks, including the loading and unloading of containers.

Key Requirements for the role
These include:
– Complete an initial training period of circa 35 hours (reasonable notice period given).
– The ability to work both as part of a team and on own intuitive where necessary.
– Carry out manual handling tasks, including the loading and discharge of containers within the Port.
– Follow all relevant statutory and Port specific Health & Safety and Operational requirements and procedures at all times.
– Hold a current counterbalance licence

Who we are looking for?
Suitable applicants will:
– Be physically able to carry out heavy manual labour.
– Be flexible in your approach to working hours and tasks and be available at relatively short notice when needed.
– Be keen to learn new skills and complete relevant training.
– The ability to prioritise Health & Safety in a safety critical environment.
– Have a full UK driving licence is desirable however not essential
Applicants will be required to successfully complete a medical assessment, relevant to the role and undergo Drug and Alcohol screening, as part of the selection process.
